About the Restaurant

"Food always tells the truth"

On the ground floor of the Hotel Okura Amsterdam, you’ll find Yamazato – a restaurant without rival for traditional, authentic Japanese cuisine.

Authentic ambience

Take your place in peaceful surrounds, decorated in authentic sukiya style – inspired by teahouses in Zen monasteries in their 16th-century hey-day. A view over an adjoining Japanese garden completes the picture perfectly.

Traditional service

The typically Japanese ambience at Yamazato is further enhanced by the service. Waitresses in traditional kimonos serve you with the utmost elegance and attention. They make sure that absolutely nothing is wanting, and enable you to imagine for a moment that you are actually in Japan.

Sushi Bar

In our spacious restaurant you also have the opportunity to sit at the Sushi Bar, where you may watch our sushi masters at work. Click here to see the different types of sushi.

We welcome groups

Six private rooms are available for special occasions. In addition, there are changing menus available especially for group dining.

Since 2002, Yamazato has been the proud holder of a Michelin star – the only traditional Japanese restaurant in Europe to be accorded the honour. Yamazato Restaurant is also a member of Alliance Gastronomique .
